Motorola Glam XT800 Gets a Price Drop

In what should serve as a lesson for companies looking to clear old stock at a premium in India, low sales figures have prompted Motorola to drop the price of India’s first dual-sim Android phone, the Glam XT800, to Rs. 23,990.

The phone did have some serviceable features, like a 3.7-inch touchscreen, an HDMI port and a 5 megapixel camera, along with Bluetooth,WiFi, EDGE and GPRS. However, not even the GSM + CDMA dual-sim mode could justify the Rs. 31,999 price tag Motorola slapped on it when it was launched here.

It doesn’t stop there. The phone had also had an upgraded version, the XT800+, released in China before the Indian launch of the XT800. Either way though, the deluge of high-end phones released in India over the past month, or ones that are going to in the next, has forced Motorola’s hand.

It’s an obvious decision in many ways - I mean, was anyone ever going to pick up the Glam over the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc which was priced the same?
